Canvas your neighborhood. Talk to other people on your block or in your area. It is important to get a number of people involved. Exchange telephone numbers and create a telephone tree.
Contact Officer Saunders of the Community Relations Office. He will come out to your group, explain the Neighborhood Security Watch and tell you how to get started.
If you decide to go ahead you will need to chose a Coordinator and Block Captains. The role of the Coordinator is to act as the liaison between the Neighborhood Watch and the Police Department. The Coordinator works directly with the Crime Prevention Section of the Community Relations Division. The Block Captain is directly responsible to the Coordinator and is the relay of information between Coordinator and Members.
The Coordinator and Block Captains will then gather the names, addresses and phone numbers of all those interested in becoming involved in the program. That information, along with a map of the area listing the streets, should then be sent to the Crime Prevention Section.
HPD will open a computer data base file for your program, and send information to the Coordinator for all the Members.
