XapShots
New 4/6Looks like we got it wired
With the aid of the new tools, I was able to correct the .srcPict to a size that works well on Windows and looks normal on both Mac and Windows heaps.
Have a look...this now enables me to shoot panoramas with the Xapshot with decent results.
Begun on 3/30/96
The task at hand... See if there is any way I could use a Canon Xapshot Video Still camera to make panoramas.
I literally rubber banded the camera to the Kaidan Mount and centered the lens over the pivot point, set it up in my backyard and shot 18 frames.
I used the Video Monitor to get the pictures in. They are an odd new size - 320 X 240.
The Xapshot uses a fixed focus 11 mm lens. I guess that the fov is around 54 and run it...
Here's the basic panorama file.

I used the following scripts:
stitch -fovy 54 -rotate 90 -offset 100 0 -range 80 40 -wrap -cropOut -i -cyldim 1000 6000 *
-sharpen -blend -fill -show *
-dir "Joulie:back:" -files "01-18"
-out "Ziggy:backyard.srcPict"
Althugh this script takes a little longer
due to the -i command, I enjoy sliding
the pictures into place and testing the
blends manually before committing
to them...gives me optimal blend control.
Next, I opened the srcPict in Photoshop and adjusted the
image size so that the heighth was evenly divisible by 24.
Then processed it into a Moov -
p2mv 1 24 "Ziggy:vr:backyardA.srcMooV" -in "Ziggy:backyard.srcPict" -codec "cvid"
Now I move the MooV from the VR folder and put it out...
and then the easy part.
Convert the Moov to a QTVR doc -
set Basename "backyardA.srcMooV"
set Root "Ziggy"
MakeSingleNodeMovie "Ziggy:backyardA.srcMooV" *
"MyYard.MOV"
* = that funny little MPW end of phrase character
Press here for a VR peek at part of my back yard.

Hmmm, odd huh? The Image has a stretch to the height.
Turn off correction ......looks a little better...still kinda screwey tho...
Idea! - try stretching the srcPict image a bit in Photoshop and remake the movie.
Back Yard - Take Two.
715K
Hmm, a bigger file...and only a wee bit more normal. I decide to stretch the image width 25%...and remake the MOV...
Back Yard - Take Three.
490K
Now, I think I'll go back and restitch the images using an fov of 44....see ya with more - Rab
Back Yard - Take Four after fov change.

Oh well, back to the drawing board...might be time to run the FOV test...any thoughts?
Write me....
The adventure continues - 3/31/96
I shot (photographed) more circles today. Two down at the new Kaka`ako Park, from the top of the tallest little hill, one at the Diamond Head end of Ala Moana Park's main beach, one from the Magic Island Side looking at the Ala Wai on one side, two from the Ewa end of Waikiki Beach, two from the top of the Pacific Grand Hotel (there were some characters involved), one from the Diamond Head end of Waikiki Beach (I was on the middle of the pier), one inside Diamond Head Crater and lastly, one at the Royal Palace.
You'll want to cruise back by here starting perhaps Wednesday or Thursday to see if any of them "pan" out.... n'yuck n'yuck () ;)
Folks, if and when ya come to town, ya gotta at least stroll through the palace grounds...check out America's only Royal Palace and the humongous trees that shade the grounds....un real...it is a Rab-Must-See when doin the downtown Honolulu thang....
There are a couple pix of the Palace on board already and I shot some extra stills today while I was down there, so there will be more added soon.
