Dear Listener Please fax and call your Congressional reps in the House of Representatives TODAY - Ask them to support a vote on and Yeah vote for passage of H.R. 5469, the Save Internet Radio Act. It's a bill that will be voted on soon by the House of Representatives This bill will stay the execution of hundreds of Internet radio stations while appeals are pending in the courts. On October 20th new copyright royalties must be paid by Internet radio services. Hundreds of small Internet radio services have already shut down as a result and many hundreds more services cannot afford the royalty and will shut down when thoses payments are due. As an Internet Radio listener and a voter, We need you to call TODAY and ask your reps in the House of Represenatives to support H.R. 5469 and allow these webcasters to stay in business while the court considers their appeals. Please get your congressmen and women to vote for H.R. 5469 -- SAVE Internet Radio. - this station depends on your action in the next couple of days. Here's how to call your rep, and get their support on HR 5469: 1. Go to http://www.congress.org and type in your zip code. or 1b) go here to our list of Reps and phone numbers. 2. Call your Representative's DC office. It has a 202 area code. 3. When someone answers, ask to speak with the person who handles internet issues. 4. Introduce yourself as one of their constituents. (And if you voted for them, let them know. If you didn't, well, don't bring that up!). 5. Tell them "I am calling to ask your support for H.R. 5469, which is up for a vote tomorrow, October 1st. The bill will provide a stay the execution of hundreds of Internet radio stations while an appeal on the CARP ruling is pending in the courts. If this bill isn't passed, webcasters will have to pay the current excessive and unfair CARP fees by October 20th, and those fees will put most- if not all- small American webcasters out of business." If you're feeling talkative, you could mention that you love the musical diversity that internet radio providers, and that internet radio has exposed you to all sorts of different musical artists you wouldn't have been exposed to otherwise. |
