From the Waimanalo News, Feb. '95

by Michael Johnson

This month our roving reporter asks the question:

Just Asking:

Describe what you most want to accomplish to strengthen your community.

Geneie Abordo

I would like to accomplish having more community functions and get togethers. More music, local craft fairs and community parties.

Rita Akeo

As the new owner of Waimanalo Fish Market I would like to accomplish forming a renters council to assist in lowering the rents. I believe that lowering the rents will help fill the empty spaces in the shopping center and bring in more businesses benefiting all of Waimanalo. Chaney Brooks is the new property managers for the shopping center and they offer a ray of hope in the short time that they have been involved by opening lines of communication with the existing tenants.

I would like to accomplish getting streetlights on the back roads so that elderly, kids and joggers can se where they are going and can be seen by cars at night especially in the early morning hours. I have asked the past councilman for help and hope that the new state representative Eve Anderson will be able to get street lights for the back roads of Waimanalo. I volunteer time toward repainting walls that have graffiti on them.

I want to have everybody work together to help clean up the community. I would like people to take care of each other, to share, this will build a stronger community. Help paint over graffiti. Graffiti not helping each other, just destroying.
