Mike Carambat's VR for a Wrinkle in Time!
QTVR by Mike Carambat

Hello from Lousiana, USA!

My name is Mike Carambat, and I live and work in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; about 65 miles North West of New Orleans. Although my region is known mostly for corrupt government officials, the terrain is unusual in that it is mostly swampy and flat.

Louisiana is known for its wetlands, and I thought this would be a great opportunity to show the rest of the world what an uncut, typical day at 1:00PM (Central Time) on December 21st would look like deep in the heart of the Blue Bonnet Swamp, here in Baton Rouge.

The VR was shot with a Canon ES5000 Hi-8 camcorder, on a custom-designed tripod head. The image was then digitized into my Power Mac 7600/233 with a Targa 1000pro video board. The movie was cut into stills, and edited and stitched in Photoshop 3.5. The source pict was then converted to VR with Jon Summer's wonderful "PanoMatic".

I used the same techniques I've outlined in my "QTVR for the average guy with no money" document, at http://www.eatel.net/~ipc1/how2vr.txt if anyone is interested.

I work at IPC Printing as a system administrator and a Graphic Designer. I have a BA in Graphic Design and I own a freelance company called Design Wizardry which I do non-linear digital editing, 3D animation, Web Page design and of course, 2D graphic design.

This has been a real experience, as I have never walked waist high in a swamp with rubber pants. Besides the possiblity of loosing my Hi-8 into the water, there are snakes, alligators and quick-mud to watch for. All went well, and I hope you enjoy the VR!

My company's site is: http://www.eatel.net/~ipc1

My e-mail address is: mcaramb@rocketmail.com

My VR's file name is "swampvr.mov"

It is 400x300 pixels in dimension, Cinepak compressed, flattened for PC. Been tested on a PC already.
