Haleakala, Mau`i

August 10th, 1997

My daughter and I spent Sunday on Mau`i. We started our adventure with breakfast on the road with a couple of croissanwiches from Burger King in Kahului. Then the hour and a half climb to the top of Haleakala (10,023 feet above sea level) in a rented convertible.

Haleakala means House of the Sun in Hawaiian. It is a National Park, run by the federal government. There are observatories up there and observation areas, plus miles and miles of trails and acres and acres of camp grounds downslope. This VR was taken atop one of the easier accesses. More vr's shot up top of Haleakala will be forthcoming...enjoy!
