Thanksgiving Day, November 27th, 1997 around 10 a.m.
The controversial and much delayed H3 freeway which runs from the Kaneohe Marine Corps Air Station thru the Ko`olau Mountains in Haiku Valley will open on December 12th. Thanks to Marilyn Kali of the State Department of Transportation, I was able to get a pass up on to the highway to shoot some pictures and some VRs. Mother Nature was not the most cooperative...as it was pretty overcast in the valley and over most of Kaneohe.
I was scheduled to go again today (11/30/97) but all of the WIndward side is socked in pretty heavily with rain and clouds. We'll try once more on Tuesday, December 2nd as I have been invited to Media Day on the H3.
Whatever your personal thoughts about the building of the highway, it is up now and will be used. What is up is very well built and pretty tastefully done.
It was truely awe inspiring to be able to roam around the H3 up in the clouds all by myself. It was a mroning full of quiet moments I will never forget as long as I live.
This VR shows the road, mountains and a view of Kaneohe and Kaneohe Bay from the first turn climbing up the long over pass.
Keep your eye on this page, as it will blossom out into an H3 section with pictures and hopefully some more VRs. Until then, press NEXT for two more done at this time.
