Da Dog - an Object VR MOV
Sunday, February 23, 1997
I successfully made my first object movie today. A simple one of one of my daughter's porcelin dog statuettes.
The whole purpose of the exercise was to test my abilities at creating one and see what my learning curve would turn out to be.
Funny how I did it too....used a black tee up against a fedex box as my backround. Took my Kaidan VR head apart and taped it (minus the camera mount) with strapping tape to a cutting board after leveling it. I put the doggie up on a black kodak film cannister and put both in line above the rotational axis of the Kaidan.
I then put the DC50 on a tripod and leveled it by eye.
Here are some shots of my "rig".
I shot 16 frames moving the kaidan and doggie corresponding to each click.
I cleaned up the images in photoshop, used Convert to Movie to make the Movie, then used Navigable MoviePlayer to manage the appropriate info.
Then I dropped it on Make QTVR Object 1.0b4.
Total elapsed time...including a couple rush object vr's before creating the "final" was about 3 hours (this included conjuring my bizarre homemade shoot methodology)
A client is proposing to buy the big Kaidan Rig to do product shots for them and I'd like to have all the anal little details down before I begin.
Compared to all the initial struggles I went through with Panoramas, I'd have to say this first attempt was a piece of cake...and quite fun too!
