Off Waianae Coast 7/2/95: In perhaps a poetic act of payback, a fisherman was wounded in the rear upper-left thigh by a 400-pound marlin he was hauling in. The thrashing fish struck him with his horn and a 3-inch-deep puncture wound resulted.
When his boat -- the Meagan II -- limped into Waianae Boat Harbor, a waiting ambulance crew found copious amounts of blood on the deck. The 38-year-old seaman was taken to St. Francis Medical Center-West where he was treated and eventually released.
The incident report did not indicate whether or not the big fish got away.
