Honokaa is located on the Big Island's Hamakua Coast some 40 miles north of Hilo. The community is a close-knit one that has roots going back to the sugar plantation days of more than 100 years ago. The plantation is gone, but the community lives on. Honokaa residents and those living in the surrounding area have proven to be resilient and have managed to maintain their unique and cherished lifestyles. Businesses have defied the odds and are catering to new markets in and out of the area. The future is bright for this rural Hamakua Community which I once called home and visit whenever I can.The downtown photo tour features more than 40 photographs of various businesses and places in town. The rural photo section featuring the surrounding areas includes photosof places like Tex Drive-In, the golf course, Waipio Valley and more. Aunty LaVerne's Fabulous Flowers pages have been updated with a small collection of new flowers growing in her front yard. New photos have also been added to the Waipio Valley section. I hope you enjoy these pictures. If you need to contact me for any reason, drop an email to my address: macpro3000@yahoo.com. Aloha.
