Public Input:
Honolulu Fire Department: Captain J. Arciero reported in the last month the station responded to 6 fire alarms, 11 assist ambulances, helped 3 rescues. The March safety tip: In case of fire, make sure you have a fire escape plan in place. Windows can also be used as an escape route.
Department of Parks: Eric Bunyan announced the Waimanalo Fun Walk on Saturday March 23 at 6:30 am, and a lei making workshop on April 11, 9 am at the District Park.
Residents Concerns: Resident Ted Teves raised several concerns: He explained after his house was burglarized, HPD did not come out to his house but took the report over the phone. Resident John Kaulu, a police officer, explained that HPD records reports in order to keep officers on the beat. The Convenience Center refuse site on Hihimanu Street seems to close at random, and garbage is dropped around the back roads of Waimanalo. Teves questioned the responsibility of who needs to maintain the streams and stormways.
Resident Cynthia Ahu, President of the Resident Association of Weinberg Village, expressed concern that some people in the community are speaking negatively about Weinberg Village. She urged them to visit the Village.
Public Officials:
Representative Eve Anderson: Legislative cross-over has occurred. Anderson has introduced a resolution for the Dept. of Health to set cesspool standards. The "Red Budget Book" clearly explains the budget process. The city has approved speedhumps. Concern regarding the expiration of farmers' revocable permits with DLNR. Clarification that she supports Weinberg Village but is questioned process of removing people from the village.
Senator Whitney Anderson: Norman Aweau noted the cesspool problem.
Mayor's Representative: No representative present.
Councilmember John Henry Felix: Staffmember Ron Boyer announce the City Council will conduct a workshop on the Hawaii Kai settlement process on March 20.
Unfinished Business:
Unisyn Biowaste: Update on Permits: A letter from the Dept. of Health explaining it is drafting a response to Unisyn's permit application and is including new conditions. Dept. of land Utilization is reviewing two conditional use permits.
There have been continued reports of odors from Unisyn.
A report to the board on recommendations for use of consent decree fund is still pending.
Capital Improvement Projects: No recommendations.
Management and maintenance of Waimanalo Streams, Storm Drainage Ways, Irrigation Ditches, Reservoirs and Road Side Drainage: Field recapped March 2 Special Meeting. Further investigation of problems, causes and possible solutions will be continued by the community, and another meeting with government representatives will take place on May 18.
New Business
Big Waimanalo Bash: Event organizer Nani Davis presented plans for a family oriented alcohol free event with live entertainment at the Polo Field. About 10,000 to 20,000 people are expected.
Hawaii Kai Development: Presentation of the Federal Court Pre-Trial Settlement Procedural Order: Herb Lee, representing the landowners, explained the 10 month consent decree process. Proposal includes 12 parcels of land for development, 30 acres for the city, and cessation of all pending litigation. Jane Howell of the City's Corporation Counsel, commented that the City is willing to make the settlement process work.
