Basketball season is in full wing now at the gym. Coach Dolan Dela Pena's 9 and 10 year old Nalo Warriors look like the strongest team in their age group. In the Bronco or 11 and 12 division Henry Castillo's Nalo is far and away the favorite to dominate this age group. He has a talented and experienced group of veteran ball players. Tony Baldomero also coaches in the Bronco division and his less experienced, mostly first year players are learning quickly and having a lot of fun. They show great promise of having a great season. In the highly competitive Pony or 13 and 14 year old division Waimanalo is represented by Solomon Thomas and David Kanoa's Warriors, Antone and Jason Hanawahine's Last Chance and R.A.G.E. coached by Jack Torres, Tony Ho'olulu and Brad Rezentes. Games in this Police Activities League are at Kailua and Waimanalo gyms every Wednesday night and Saturday morning and on Fridays at Kaneohe gym.
Just to update everyone on our recently completed Parks and Recreation Volleyball season, I'm proud to announce that both Waimanalo teams won their respective age groups in the District IV Championship tournament. Earl Kupaha coached his girls from Waimanalo Intermediate School to first place in the High School Division. Luana Kaio took her team to a repeat victory in the Elementary Division.
We had a Fun Walk last year to help celebrate Waimanalo School's 70th anniversary. On March 23 we plan to have another walk and will do this annually if there's enough interest. Entry forms will be available soon at Waimanalo Elementary and Intermediate School office or at Waimanalo District Park. n
